Lucca is a beautiful art city, which is really worth the while to explore: you will be amazed to discover a city centre completely enclosed by old walls, full of ancient palazzi, churches, fancy stores and characteristic restaurants. The many cultural events make of Lucca an ideal destination in any part of the year: Lucca Comics and Games at the end of October, religious and classical music concerts from April until June, operas in October and November, the local Festival in the month of September, the Summer Festival concerts in July, open air markets on the week end and much more.
The old town of Lucca has a special flair, which attracts every year thousands and thousands of tourists.
Lucca could protect over all the years its arts treasures thank to its town wall; to mention are for example: the amphitheatre, the dome of San Martino and the wonderful church of San Michele or “palazzo Pfanner” which was chosen for film sets, because of its beauty, by many film directors, i.e. “portrait of a lady” by Jane Campion with Nicole Kidman.
Lucca is also known to be the city of birth of the well-known opera writer Giacomo Puccini, which is appreciated in the whole world! There are many cultural events (concerts, exhibitions), all year over, which are dedicated to the Maestro. Torre del Lago is only 25 km from the historical centre of Lucca – the composer lived there many years – an open-air theatre was built, which is the yearly host of the Puccini opera festival.

Awesome. Highly recommended. Great location, quiet area inside walls, well appointed kitchen. Loved the courtyard. 5 to 15 minute walk to restaurants. 3 minute walk to wall for morning/evening walks. Will stay again.

Es war sehr schön.
Die Lage zur Altstadt und dem Außenring fanden wir ideal. Das Auto muss weggestellt werden, was wir aber auch nicht schlimm finden.

C'était notre premier grand voyage en Italie et plus particulièrement en Toscane en famille. Nous n'avons pas été déçu la région est extraordinaire, à visiter au moins une fois dans sa vie.
Mais on attendait à cela avec la renommée de certaines villes telles que Florence , Pise…
Par contre Lucques est une très belle découverte. C’est un site à visiter absolument avec ses différents aspects historiques et contemporains : l'art, l'Histoire et gastronomie.

This was our first big trip to Italy and more particularly to Tuscany with our family. We were not disappointed, the region is extraordinary, to visit at least once in a lifetime.
But we expected this with the fame of some cities such as Florence, Pisa...
On the other hand Lucca is a very beautiful discovery. It is a site to visit absolutely with its various historical and contemporary aspects: art, history and gastronomy.
