Market of antiques – every 3rd weekend a month

The market of antiques in Lucca is by now a guaranteed appointment. Nowadays about 220 exhibitors participate, coming from all over Italy – the market is considered one of the most important in the country – loved because of its variety of exposed objects and the symbiosis between the stands and the lanes and piazzas of the centre.

Via del Battistero, Piazza Antelminelli, Piazza San Martino, Piazza San Giusto, Piazza San Giovanni and Piazza Bernardini are packed with exhibitors, numerous people from Lucca and not. The first market of antiques took place in 1970 – founded by antique dealers, restaurant and various business owners.

Verdemura – spring

Exhibition – gardening and living in the outdoors market. The north part of the sixteenth century town wall is hosting this event. The exhibition has more than 200 stands – beautiful spring flowers, from edible herbs to exotic ones.

Santa Zita – 23rd – 27th April

Santa Zita is a festivity in memoriam of woman who used to be the “saint” of the flowers, passed away on 27th April 1272. Her body is conserved in the church of San Frediano – it is exposed during the feast day – occasion to receive offers. The tradition says that during these days a bunch of jonquil and sweets made of herbs are to be offered. During this event you will see small gardens made up in the squares of the centre by gardening centres and the gardeners of the Botanical Garden.

Summer Festival – July

Lucca Summer Festival is the biggest summer rock and pop music festival, founded in 1998, taking place in the historical centre of Lucca – Piazza Napoleone and for bigger concerts in the lawn just outside the walls.

Without any doubt one of the most important music events in Italy – capable to host big national and international names.

Murabilia – September

High quality gardening exhibition – one of the most important fairs in Italy for flowers, plants and gardening. It takes place every year, during the first weekend of September, in some parts of the town wall as also in the Botanical Garden. Also, here more than 200 exhibitors offering a wide range of flowers, plants, tools and furnishings.

Settembre Lucchese – September

A month rich of important events and enticement for the city of Lucca. Big number of appointments – religious festivities, fairs, markets, events and fun fair – peak is the religious procession on September 13th, starting from 20:00h on – all lanes are illuminated with candles. The worship of the Holy Face of Lucca is on the 14th September.

Fashion in Flair – May and October

A fair dedicated to quality handicraft – a selection of exhibitors coming from all over Italy. An antique villa with its park, located in the historical centre of Lucca is hosting this event with more than 100 stands, wanting to reproduce the atmosphere of a living room of other times.

Lucca Comics & Games – End October

Lucca Comics and Games is an international exhibition, the most important in Europe and second important in the world after Comiket in Tokyo. The fair lasts 4 days and every year more visitors crowd the stands in the tents (about 280’000).

Lucca Comics and Games is dedicated to comics, animation, games, video-games as also to science-fiction. The streets are packed with people dressed with costumes of famous comic characters, a colourful bunch of people.
