The apartment is located a few steps away from the Renaissance City Walls, the most important monument of the city, which enclose the entire historic centre in a ring-wise manner. The walls were built for defensive purposes and were converted into a pedestrian promenade in the 1800s, becoming a big, public park. Today they are used for strolls, to work out and, during the warm season, they host shows and events.
Lucca is, par excellence, a catholic city and has more than 100 churches. The most important ones are San Martino Cathedral, San Frediano Church and San Michele Church. Among the squares and monuments, we recommend you to visit Amphitheatre Square, the towers (Torre Guinigi and Torre delle Ore), the Botanic Garden, and the Guinigi Museum.
From Lucca you can make one-day trips to the most important art cities of Tuscany like Florence, Pisa and Siena, visit picturesque medieval towns nestled in the countryside like Montecarlo, go to the seaside in Versilia or to Leghorn, Castiglioncello and le Cinque Terre or organize bike trips or treks, following the tour of the Ville Lucchesi, which are located about 6 km from the city.
